Danville, CA ~

I know it is Christmas time when all around town I see posters attached to fat red barrels like this. In these barrels, folks donate toys to be given away to bring joy to needy children at the Holidays. I think this is done all over the USA. Is it the same in other countries that celebrate this holiday?

I see a fine history going back to 1947 behind this program but it was, until now, unknown to me in the UK. This year, my generosity went, mostly, toward the "Pensioners Alone At Christmas " program . . I have to admit a potential future interest in that one !

This is a great idea, the only one I know here is the shoe box scheme, you fill a shoe box with bits and bobs either for a girl or a boy.

We don't have anything like that. Unfortunately, I suspect they would be forever empty....

We don't have those kind of barrels in Finland but we have other fundraising operations, E.g. the Salvation Army has pots in the streets and people can give money or left gift packages for poor children.

the Marine security guards here are running the program - so yes, Toys for Tots is probably in every US embassy throughout the world!

A great reminder. I love the "jarheads" and the good things they do, especially this one.

Fantastic idea indeed... I know we have associations to gather old toys here for charity, but no barrels like these. Great vintage look :) Enjoy your weekend :)
