Although the girl is in the center of the photo I cant stop looking at the face of the mother ..

I have the same feeling as Sonia... the girl is very cute and well photographed but there is something that catches the eye in her mother's expression. Have a great Sunday Dulcie :)

So beyond just engaging . . the image tries to say more but the lips are sealed !

How beautiful! and what a great composition!!

Delicious picture! The gesture of the girl is so expressive that it needs no explanation! I like the composition image focusing on the girl and leaving half her face!

Great shot Dulcie with a beautiful title!

Great shot, she does look it is naptime for her.

This is a great capture. Beside that the gesture is a perfect and typical child's "tired" signal, the mother's worried/tense look (weirdly Jackie O) is priceless. See a child, there's always a mother nearby, worried about something.

Ahhhh, so cute. We parents have seen this so many times. The framing of your shot really moves this out of the snapshot category and into interesting photography. Mom's face. WOW!

@Bob Towery: Thanks for the comment. Moving beyond the "snapshot" is always my goal, especially when the subject is "sweet" or "cute." The mother's face definitely added something unexpected. This woman turned her back to me .... or I might have had a marvelous study of her full face !
Beautiful , lovely girl portrait . mom looks like Jacklin Kennedy :))

i can't help feeling that there is a story in the woman's eyes.
18 Apr 2010 5:02pm
Interesting that everyone sees Jackie O in the woman's face........interesting shot......woman holding this child looks more to me like grandmom......and neither of them looks very happy......maybe, end of a long day shopping/????

Très tendre photo, on voudrait prendre l'enfant dans ses bras...

Good evening, Dulcie,
the little girl actually seems to be very tired. The facial expression conveys it very well. I see a little bit from the face of the lady. She looks a little bit nervouce.... ??!! Have a nice evening and thanks for your nice comment. Dear greetings Christel

20 Apr 2010 6:50am
Wonderful portrait of a tired child and a very observant mother with a searching gaze!

A portrait that speaks a thousand words..... and I imagine each viewer will have a different interpretation. I adore the little curl right below the girl's eye..... and that pouty lip.... a treasure.

it came as a shock to see a series of pictures of people but, now that i've looked throgh your portfolio i realize you posted a few before. i hope you'll do more if they are as brilliant as this which, as others have noted, is so full of story. a painful story, if think. and who is that half-seen man in the lower left. is he the father who is fading away.....as fathers often do??? thank you, dulcie!
